Lake Physical Medicine - The Path to Pain Relief!
Regenerative Medicine Q & A
How does regenerative medicine work?
Regenerative medicine works to repair an injury or source of pain by harnessing the body’s ability to heal itself.
Instead of other mainstream pain treatments which may merely mask the pain, regenerative therapies work alongside your body’s natural processes to eliminate the cause and lead to lasting pain relief.
Some examples of common regenerative medicine treatments include:
At Lake Physical Medicine, Dr. Boylan helps patients overcome chronic joint, tendon, and ligament pain caused by injury, arthritis, or other factors with regenerative medicine techniques.
Dr. Boylan works with you to determine if regenerative medicine therapies are right for you.
What are PRP and stem cell injections?
Platelets are a type of blood cell that’s essential in healing muscle injuries and all kinds of wounds.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections use a portion of your own blood that's rich in growth factors that help repair injuries. This platelet-rich blood is injected into the injury site to promote the growth of new, healthy cells in the affected area. Many patients report reduced joint pain and improved functionality once they receive PRP injections.
Stem cell injections can be effective for treating elbow, knee, and arthritis pain. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells in the body that can develop into numerous tissue types and work to build regenerated, healthy tissue at the site of damage or injury.
Both PRP and stem cells go beyond other injection therapies, as they help the body heal instead of merely easing pain at the surface level.
What can I expect when receiving regenerative medicine treatments?
Regenerative medicine treatments use the latest technology to address the cause of pain at the source for long-term healing and relief. You receive the injections in Dr. Boylan’s office and return home the same day.
The injections used in regenerative medicine are safe. Since Dr. Boylan uses your tissues in most cases, there's little risk of rejection. In some cases, you may have a bit of discomfort at the injection site, but he estimates what your healing time may look like so you know what to expect.
